Bacillus cereus MYP Agar is a selective and differential medium for the detection and enumeration of presumptive Bacillus cereus in food, animal feed, and environmental samples, formulated according to ISO 7932:2004. Originally developed by Mossel in 1967, it differentiates B. cereus by its mannitol-negative reaction (pink to red colonies) and lecithinase production, seen as a surrounding white precipitate.
Polymyxin B inhibits competing flora, while beef extract, peptone, and sodium chloride provide essential nutrients and maintain osmotic balance.
